Job Description

Our client is a distribution operation based in the UK, with around 400 branch outlets. Part of a global operation, they act autonomously but leverage the benefits of a wider operation.

The UK business is operating on 2 distinct platforms of Cognos; 8.2 and 8.4, with a view to migrating to a newer 3 Tier architecture, possible VM Ware and incorporating new ETL tools namely Cognos DataManager. A current rationalisation program is currently underway and proving successful as is the newly introduced BI Framework and Best Practices.

A role is now required to help reshape the BI function and move it into an enterprise wide facility that supports a £1bn business, bringing your experience and visions to the table.

You will have a minimum of 2 years experience of Cognos DataManager designing, building, troubleshooting and amending existing ETL structures. You should also have good SQL writing skills and need SQL2000/5 knowledge (DTS and SSIS).

Preferably to be aware of Kimbol, Inmon and Hybrid methodologies and have broad knowledge of Framework Manager, OLAP Cube design & DMR. A working knowledge of the core Cognos BI Studios is required and advantageous to understand Go Office, Metrics Studio and Go Dashboard.

The right candidate will have a deep understanding of Cognos systems but also the ability to assist with Cognos promotion and requirement gathering from a non-technical point of view that the business understands at various levels.

The Senior BI Consultant should be an excellent communicator, problem solver and more essentially a team player with the ability to manage, schedule your own workload allowing for overlaps and impacts. You will be assisting the Team with knowledge transfer and helping to shape the wider Virtual Team. An understanding of business and the processes of business functions, particularly Finance, would also be beneficial.
